It was raining..
I was cold..
And getting frustrated..
I wanted to just run into the store..
as quick as possible..
Get out of the cold..
Get out of the rain..
But a certain 3 year old does not get the concept of hurry..
When he "walks"
He doesn't walk..
He skips...
Or jumps across the parking spot lines..
Or pulls me to look at a rock..
He does anything but hurry...
Often I would say..
"Lets hurry buddy"..
Or when he really lingers..
just pick him up..
But I started thinking..
Whats so great about hurrying..
When did I go from enjoying each step..
to being so rushed
to get to the end..
That I don't even remember the steps.
Little kids..
with their skips..
and jumps..
their random running..
and then their painfully slow pace..
Have got something..
They understand..
without even outstanding..
That the journey is important..
Each step should mean something..
And there is a time to skip..
A time to run..
A time to look at every random leaf that you happen to see..
And sometimes even a time to rush..
But the time to rush is not as often
as we make it.
So I will slow down...
unless its really cold..
Or there is a good sale going on..
Because I hate the cold..
And I love a good sale
